What is a luminometer?
A Luminometer detects the presence of ATP on a surface. When we find ATP on surfaces that we test, it means that  bacteria, microorganisms, mold and food residue left on the measured areas has been detected. The Luminometer gives us a Caution or Fail via the Relative Light Units (RLU) indicated, so that we go back over the area again until Pass is measured.
What does that mean for me?
Once Trinity finishes cleaning your office and work areas, we go back and check the ATP levels with the Luminometer. An instant reading provides us with the RLU measurement. It isn’t something we have to wait for or send out, we can act immediately and re-clean the areas. The instrument will give us an indication of Pass, Caution or Fail. If we see Caution or Fail, we got back and clean that area until we see Pass. When we’re done, you see the Luminometer results to show Trinity did our part, and you have peace of mind for clients, customers and employees.

Facility Cleanliness Testing FAQs:

  • How long does a facility cleanliness testing appointment typically take?

The length of a cleanliness testing appointment depends on the size of your facility and the number of surfaces tested. Most businesses can expect the process to take between 30 minutes to a few hours, with minimal disruption to daily operations.

  • Which areas of my facility are usually tested?

Common testing areas include high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, desks, countertops, restrooms, breakrooms, equipment controls, and shared workspaces. Our team can customize testing based on your facility’s needs and traffic patterns.

  • Does cleanliness testing help with regulatory or inspection requirements?

While ATP testing is not a formal regulatory inspection, it provides documented proof of cleanliness that can support internal audits, quality control programs, and health and safety standards in industries such as healthcare, food service, and manufacturing.

  • Can facility cleanliness testing identify problem areas in my cleaning routine?

Yes. Testing often reveals specific surfaces or zones that may need more frequent attention or improved cleaning methods. This allows for targeted cleaning strategies that improve overall hygiene.

  • Do I need to prepare my facility before testing?

No special preparation is required. We recommend testing after routine cleaning or disinfecting so results accurately reflect cleanliness levels. Our team handles the entire process.
